3 and Cardio-thoracic Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
0161 276 4142
Ward 3 is a busy, friendly
27 bed Cardio-thoracic unit, which include a 6 bed high dependency
area (Cardiothoracic PCU), and 8 further monitored and telemetry
beds.
We care for pre and
post operative Cardio-thoracic patients, as well as emergency chest
trauma cases.
5 heart operations are
carried out each day and there is one thoracic list per week, containing
at least 2 major procedures.
All staff rotate between
PCU and the ward. Students are allocated to the ward for critical
care and surgical experience. Staff are also offered the opportunity
to rotate throughout the Manchester Heart Centre and the Cardiac
Surgery Intensive Care Unit.
All new members of staff
are given an orientation programme, preceptorship and mentorship,
objectives, teaching and regular appraisals. Funding is available
for the ENB249, as well as various other courses and study days.
Staff are encouraged to become active link workers in many specialist
areas.
