Ward 16 is a 16 bedded cardiology 5 Day Ward - closed every week-end.

Other patients who are accommodated include :-Those having a Trans-Oesophageal Examination(TOE), cardioversion and occasionally day-case cardio-thoracic surgery.

The process which has developed, has been most successful, and this model is creating interest in other hospitals throughout the UK.

As part of the nursing team, you will be expected to help in the holistic care of the patient such as giving a full explanation of the entire procedure. Health promotion relating to diet, smoking, exercise etc.is also an integral part of the care required by this group of patients

Nusing Team Objectives

  • To provide a comprehensive nursing service to all patients admitted to the ward.
  • To provide research based nursing care.
  • To provide a supportive atmosphere for all staff to develop to their fullest potential.
  • To operate within agreed budgetary targets.

During your stay you will be looked after by our team of nurses. The nurse looking after you will introduce himself or herself to you at the beginning of every shift.

Qualified nurses wear grey uniforms with blue or green epaulettes. You will see other nursing staff with different uniforms who will visit you from time to time, these nurses will introduce themselves to you if necessary, and will explain who they are.
