The commencement of the Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic will enable earlier assessment of patients, allowing earlier intervention. The MHC sees this development as part of the integrate approach enabling improvement in all aspects of services for patients with coronary heart disease. The MHC has pioneered the OPCAB (off-pump coronary artery bypass) procedure and this has the benefits of faster patient recovery and with greater numbers being performed, the possibilities of reduced stabilisation device costs with associated cost savings. The MHC has consistently audited its surgical results and continued to improve all aspects of its care to patients. The annual audit return has consistently shown cardiac surgery at the MHC outperforming the operative mortality compared to the UK return. The MHC has:- Demonstrated efficient use of consultant time, catheter
lab time, theatre utilisation, critical care and bed utilisation.
