is having their procedure, another one can be prepared. This maximises
the efficiency of the lab. In this room the procedures performed are:-,
Angiograms, Angioplasties, Stents, Pacemakers and Internal Defibrillators.
A fourth lab - single flat plane, is currently being built and will be operational in the Spring of 2003.
The Cardiac Catheter Lab is a very busy department. It operates Monday to Friday but 24 hour cover is provided by an on-call service. As a working environment, it is a friendly and pleasant area in which to work. There are opportunities to visit other areas within the heart centre, and we offer the opportunity to expand staff skills, both practical and academic. All new members of staff are given an orientation programme, mentorship, objectives, teaching and regular appraisals. Staff are encouraged to become active link workers in many specialist areas.
